INDIACom 2017 - International Conference on Computing for Sustainable Global Development

The 11th edition of INDIACom i.e. INDIACom - 2017, 4thInternational Conference on “Computing for Sustainable Global Development” was hosted by Bharati Vidyapeeth Institute of Computer Applications and Management (BVICAM), New Delhi during 1st – 3rd  March, 2017. The event was executed in association with IEEE (USA) Delhi Section and was supported by CSI Region – I and CSI Divisions – I, II, III, IV & V,  IETE Delhi Centre, IET (UK) Delhi Local Networks and ISTE Delhi Section.

The event started with an exhilarating inauguration on the evening of 1st March 2017. Prof. M. N. Hoda, Director, BVICAM, New Delhi & General Chair,  INDIACom-2017 briefed the audience about the history of 10 editions of INDIACom, since its inception in the year 2007 and presented a brief report of INDIACom - 2017.  Shri R. K. Vyas, National Hony. Treasurer, CSI, acknowledged the presence of all the dignitaries and talked about how CSI has been associated with INDIACom since its inception and is open to honest feedback for further improvement. Prof. A. K. Saini, Professor, GGSIP University, New Delhi, has applauded the success of the INDIACom team year after year, in past eleven years. Prof. A. K. Nayak, National Hony. Secretary, CSI, also graced the occasion. He discussed with the audience how sustainable computing applications can turn around the fate of the country at a much faster pace. Prof. Mohammad Yamin, Chair, Research Committee, Dept. of Management Information System, Faculty of Economics and Administration, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was the Guest of Honour. He was also the convener of the 3rd International workshop on Information Engineering and Management (IWIEM 2017), being organized by him along with the INDIACom-2017, under Track # 05, having participants and authors from different countries. During his key note address, he also emphasized to synergize and harmonize the undertaken research efforts and foster the collaborative research. The Inaugural Session was presided over by Prof. K. K. Aggarwal, Noted academician and Founder Vice Chancellor, GGSIP University, New Delhi, Past President, Fellow and Life Time Achievement Awardee of CSI, who expressed his appreciation to see the event growing immensely over the years. He shared his views on the importance of computing in a students’ life and that the education system should be open to accept students’ alternatives of solutions to encourage logical thinking and nurturing innovations & creativity. He also expressed his concern on how the focus is always laid upon the finances involved in the introduced innovation related projects rather than analyzing their cost benefits and savings, in long run. Mrs. Suvira Srivastava, Associate Editorial Director, Computer Science Publishing Development, Springer Nature, also graced the occasion and congratulated all for the association of BVICAM with Springer Publishing House. Dr. Javier Poncela, University of Malaga, Spain shared his views through his presentation on sustainable computing. Among other dignitaries, were present Dr. Abdullah Basahel, Director MBA, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Dr. Yasser Ades, Management consultant, Melbourne Australia and Shri Sanjay Mohapatra, Vice President, CSI. All appreciated the huge success of the event. The amount and quality of shared ideas and life stories kept the audience hooked and inspired at the same time.

The 17th issue of BVICAM’s International Journal of Information Technology (BIJIT), now renamed as International Journal of Information Technology [An official journal of Bharathi Vidyapeeth’s Institute of Information Technology and Management (BVICAM)] was released on the occasion. IJIT is now published by Springer (The world’s largest publisher of scientific documents) w.e.f. Volume 09-Issue 01 from January, 2017 under ISSN: 2511- 2104 (Print Version); ISSN: 2511-2112 (Electronic Version), which is now available online at http://link.springer.com/journal/41870. The pre-conference hard copy as well as soft copy proceedings for INDIACom-2017; were also released by the dignitaries during the inaugural session.

 After the enlightening talk, all delegates in attendance were felicitated with mementos and shawls. Prof. M.N. Hoda, Director, BVICAM was felicitated by Prof. A.K. Nayak on behalf of Indian Institute of Business Management (IIBM), Patna as the Best IT Faculty of the Nation, 2016. Mrs Anukiran Jain, Associate Professor, BVICAM was presented with the Best Faculty award, followed by awards presented to Dr. Vishal Jain, Dr. Shivendra Goel and Dr. Ritika Wason for successful completion of their Ph. D programs. Mr. Nitish Pathak and Dr. Ritika Wason were awarded for publishing high quality research papers in SCI indexed and Web of Science Journals. Dr. Vishal Jain was also awarded for continuous contribution towards quality research and having more than hundred research citations. The third year students were felicitated with awards for their brilliant academic performance. At the end, Dr. Ritika Wason, Assistant Professor, BVICAM, presented the vote of thanks.

The inaugural session concluded with the Cultural Evening having series of eye-catching and wonderful performances performed by the students of BVICAM. The session was anchored and co-ordinated by Mrs. Parul Arora, Asstt. Professor, BVICAM, New Delhi.

INDIACom – 2017; the 11th edition of this annual conference, attracted over 2600 papers, by 5000 authors across 26 countries. After a series of tough review exercises, in multiple cycles, by a team of over 900 experts; 883 papers were recommended to be accepted for presentation in INDIACom – 2017 during the three days under nine parallel tracks (four regular tracks and five special sessions). Over 1200 Senior experts / researchers delegates from countries like USA, Australia, Greece, Spain, Malaysia, Canada,  Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, China, UK, Denmark, Romania, Ireland, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Spain, Ghana, Japan, Oman, Afghanistan, etc., and from all the states of India have participated during the three days of the event. A chosen set of 91 papers have been published in the hard copy of the proceedings with ISSN 0973-7529 and ISBN 978-93-80544-23-6 serials. All the 883 papers have also been published in the soft copy of the proceedings, available on the web-portal of the Institute at http://bvicam.ac.in/indiacom/, having ISSN 0973-7529 and ISBN 978-93-80544-24-3 serials. Out of 883 accepted papers, 807 papers were presented during the three days of the conference, which shall be published at IEEE Xplore, the world’s largest repository, indexed with world’s leading Abstracting & Indexing (A&I) databases, including Web of Science, SCOPUS, DBLP, EI-Compendex, INSPEC, etc.

Track # 1 received papers on Sustainable Computing; Track # 2 dealt with High Performance Computing; Track # 3 for High Speed Networking and Information Security; Track # 4 on Software Engineering and Emerging Technologies; Track # 5 was for 3nd International workshop on Information Engineering and Management (IWIEM 2017); Track # 6 was for ICT Based Innovations; Track # 7 was for Next Generation Computing; Track # 8 was for Next Generation Networking; and lastly, Track # 9 was devoted to papers related to Software, Systems and Architecture.

A Panel discussion was organized on the evening of 2nd March, 2016 based on the theme “Digital India”; an initiative undertaken by the Government of India, which includes creation of digital infrastructure, delivering services digitally and digital literacy.  The Panel Discussion was moderated by Dr. Yasser Ades, Management consultant, Melbourne, Australia and Dr. Anup Girdhar, CMD, Sedulity Solutions, New Delhi. Other panelists for the session were Mr. Daman Dev Sood, COO and Head – Sustainability Practice, Prof. Vinay Kumar,  Professor, VIPS, Delhi, Mr. V. K. Gupta, IET (UK) and Shri Sanjay Mohapatra, Vice President, CSI.

Over 950 guests from different parts of the country and abroad, including 52 session chairs and invited speakers participated in three days of the conference.  Paper presentations, key note addresses, invited talks showcased the solid research base built by the experts and participants. The skill with which the event was executed, welcomed positive feedback from all visiting dignitaries.

Entire event was co-ordinated by the faculty members, Dr. Anupam Baliyan,  Mrs. Shalini Singh Jaspal, Mrs. Parul Arora, Dr. Shivendra Goel, Mr. Vishal Jain, Mr. Nitish Pathak, Dr. Ritika Wason, Mrs. Vaishali Joshi, Mrs. Narinder Kaur, Mr. Imran Khan, Mr. Manish, Mr. Uttam Singh Bisht, Mrs. Manu Anand and Mrs. Tanya Pathak. 

Finally, the last day of the event, 4th March, 2017; witnessed 10th National Students’ Convention (NSC), which was enjoyed by all the guests and students of BVICAM, New Delhi. All the organizing entities also resolved to organized 12th INDIACom i.e. INDIACom-2018 during 16th – 18thMarch, 2018, in Delhi itself.
